THE WEBSTER TECHNIQUE

Optimizing pelvic function for a safer, smoother pregnancy and birth.

Chiropractic care during pregnancy is more than just comfort care—it plays a vital role in supporting optimal function for both mom and baby throughout pregnancy and birth.

At North Point Chiropractic, both of our doctors are certified in the Webster Technique through the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA). This specialized approach is a cornerstone of our prenatal care—gently restoring balance in the pelvis, muscles, and ligaments to create the best possible environment for baby and support a more empowered birth experience.

What Is the Webster Technique?

The Webster Technique is a specific chiropractic analysis and adjustment designed to:

  • Reduce nervous system stress
  • Improve alignment of the sacrum and pelvis
  • Balance surrounding muscles and ligaments
  • Optimize pelvic function during pregnancy and delivery

While often associated with improving baby positioning, the true goal of Webster is to enhance maternal function. By restoring normal motion and alignment, it allows the nervous system and pelvis to work more efficiently—impacting both comfort and birth outcomes.

The Anatomy Behind the Technique

The pelvis is a complex structure that includes bones, muscles, joints, and ligaments that all work together to support pregnancy and labor. The Webster Technique addresses imbalances in key areas that can affect both maternal and fetal wellbeing, including:

  • Sacrum – base of the spine; misalignment can impact nerve supply and pelvic balance
  • Sacroiliac Joints (SI joints) – where the sacrum meets the pelvis; a critical point for pelvic mobility
  • Piriformis Muscle – tightness here may contribute to sciatica and pelvic rotation
  • Psoas Muscle – essential for posture, pelvic tilt, and baby’s position
  • Round Ligament – supports the uterus and can become strained when pelvic balance is off
  • Pubic Bone – contributes to overall pelvic stability

By gently and specifically adjusting these areas and releasing soft tissue tension, the Webster Technique helps remove biomechanical stress and restore balance.

Why It Matters for Pregnancy & Birth

As the uterus grows, any imbalance in the pelvis can cause torsion, tension, or misalignment that may impact:

  • Baby’s ability to move freely and settle into an ideal position
  • Maternal comfort (especially in the hips, back, and pelvis)
  • The efficiency of uterine contractions and overall labor progress
  • The likelihood of interventions during birth

Birth professionals often recommend Webster-certified chiropractors because this technique is associated with:

Improved baby positioning (head-down, anterior)

Reduced discomfort in late pregnancy

Shorter labor times

Fewer complications or interventions

Safer, easier birth outcomes for both mom and baby

Research & Recognition

Webster Technique is widely supported by chiropractors, midwives, doulas, and OBs who value evidence-informed, collaborative prenatal care.

A growing body of research and clinical experience supports the technique’s ability to:

  • Reduce sacral subluxation
  • Improve pelvic function
  • Influence intrauterine constraint
  • Support better neuro-biomechanical outcomes in pregnancy

“Well-informed birth professionals love to hear their clients are under Webster care—because it sets the foundation for a more functional, physiologically supported birth.”
