Elizabeth Francis set a few records as she celebrated her birthday. She became the oldest living person in Texas, the second oldest in the United States, the seventh oldest in the world, and the second oldest in the world who lives at home. But despite all that, this super centenarian isn’t as unique as you’d think. You see, longevity runs in her family.
Elizabeth is now 114 years old. Her sister lived to 106, making them among the oldest siblings on record. Her daughter is now 94, and her granddaughter and caregiver is 68.
Quite a History
When someone learns of Elizabeth’s age, their immediate reaction is that it’s a lie. She can’t possibly be 114. But Elizabeth was born in 1909. William Taft was president. Women and Black people couldn’t vote. It wasn’t until later that talking motion pictures, traffic signals, and the ballpoint pen came into being.
Done Everything Right
According to her doctor, Elizabeth has done everything right in creating her healthy longevity. She ate well, moved, ate a plant-based diet, and had strong community connections and family support. In other words, Elizabeth was living her 100 Year Lifestyle. And she’s been inspiring her family members and others to follow her lead.
Another thing she had that the doctor failed to mention, however, was her faith and positive attitude. When asked why she thought she’d lived so long, Elizabeth replied, “This is a blessing, the Lord’s blessing.”
Elizabeth had a lot of blessings along the way, including a very interesting job. Click here to watch her tell the story herself.
